Coastal protection
The Council has commissioned and continues to commission sea defences supported by the Department for the Environment and Rural Affairs and the Environment Agency and is responsible for the Shoreline Management Plan for the Coast between the Tyne and Flamborough Head. Consequently the authority maintains a library of data relating to the coastal environment.
Wave power
In their role as a Coastal Protection Authority Scarborough Borough Council has a keen interest in the opportunity to build renewable energy sources into new Sea Defences.
With the financial support of Yorkshire Forward Scarborough Borough Council have commissioned a study to identify the technical and economic feasibility of integrating Oscillating Wave Column (OWC) technology into coastal defence works for the piers at Whitby Harbour.
