Harbours
Whitby Harbour is managed by a Harbour Committee bringing wide experience from industry together with the political sensitivity of elected members in a 50:50 combination
Whitby harbour
Whitby has an extensive history as a commercial harbour as it offers the unrivalled access directly to the sea and less than 3 hours steaming time to Dogger Bank (at 25 knots). Endeavour Wharf at Whitby Harbour provides a 210m length commercial quay which can accommodate two maximum sized vessels simultaneously of the following dimensions:
- Up to 3000 tonnes DWT (deadweight)
- LOA: 85 metres (length overall)
- Beam: 14 metres
- Draft: 5 to 6.5 metres (subject to tide)
- Two floating commercial pontoons
There is a minimum depth of water at Endeavour Wharf of 2.0 metres below Chart Datum.
In excess of 5000 m2 open quay storage space is available on the wharf which has the potential to be expanded and developed to meet industry requirements.
A 25 tonne crane is available for loading and unloading. The port has compulsory pilotage for all vessels over 37 metres in length.
