Specialist companies

Within the Borough, there are wide range of local businesses that can contribute to the operational and maintenance support requirements of the offshore wind energy sector.

These include specialist companies currently providing engineering services to the marine and oil sector, including; the design, manufacture and installation of access equipment; electronic instrumentation and control equipment; power distribution and control; precision parts and machining and welding services; mechanical services and much more.

The Council are committed to facilitating links between local companies and the offshore wind industry and building the capacity of local engineering firms to respond to the opportunities provided by the sector.

The Council, and the network of local training providers, are working closely with local engineering and manufacturing companies to respond to the skills needs of the sector in general.

A Borough wide Engineering and Manufacturing Forum consisting of local businesses accounting for over 80% of the sector workforce, has been established to shape skills provision and promote the sector as a rewarding career choice for young people. This can be enhanced to focus on meeting the particular needs of the wind energy sector.

In addition links are being made with the strategic bodies and broader regional and national networks, which can support local businesses and other stakeholders to meet the requirements of the sector.
