Transportation
Scarborough and Whitby are both about 67 miles from Leeds and 42 miles from York.
Rail
The national rail infrastructure serves both Scarborough and Whitby.
Whitby station is ideally located at the harbour side. The scenic Esk Valley Line provides a rail link between Middlesborough and Whitby.
In addition, the North York Moors Railway operates a heritage line linking Pickering to Whitby. The line is steam powered and has loading facilities at New Bridge and the right to carry freight into Whitby. The use of Biomass fuels is currently being investigated.
The Council own the former railway route joining Whitby and Scarborough through the National Park. In addition to providing a footpath, the route is used to convey communication and energy along the coastline.
An hourly service operates from Scarborough to Filey, Bridlington and Hull.
An hourly service also operates from Scarborough to York, Leeds, Manchester and Liverpool. York is less than an hour away by rail providing access to the East Coast Mainline.
Air
At 43 miles and a 60 minute drive from Whitby, Durham Tees Valley Airport offers 3 international flights a day to Schipol Airport, Amsterdam as well as daily flights to Aberdeen and Dublin.
Scarborough is a 90 minute drive time from Humberside Airport.
